We are often asked great questions by workers while on site and want to share the information here with everyone. If your question is not listed here, please send us your inquiry to info@knappettea.ca .
If you would like a pdf copy of the Collective Agreement, please email your request to angela@workstrategies.ca . Hard copies are available from the Knappett Projects head office or from Mark and Angela during site visits.
Here are the steps outlined on the the Canada Services EI website:
A summary of the steps are:
Currently there is no provision in the benefits program for fitted ear protection. The requirement from WorkSafe is that companies provide ear protection, such as ear plugs, and noise levels must remain within the allowable limits of 85 dBA over 8 hours or 140 dBC peak sound level for impact noises. My observations are that Knappett prioritizes safety and has a robust program in place, and I am told by the CSO that the safety program includes meeting or exceeding all safety requirements for hearing protection. If you think you may need a different fit or size than the provided protection, please ask your site Superintendent.
Please continue to communicate your concerns to your superintendent and myself as continuous improvement is an important value for Knappett Projects and the KPEA.
As you know, the current Collective Agreement matches the 5 paid sick day provision outlined in the Employment Standards in BC. This is considered to be quite generous compared other Provinces, and is a significant financial burden to employers. Despite this, please be assured that the KPEA is aware of how important this matter is to our affected workers, and is committed to exploring opportunities to enhance this provision in future discussions with management.
If you would like to have a discussion with a financial expert for some advice in handling these types of unforeseen costly events, we would encourage you to take advantage of the access to a financial counsellor through the EFAP program – https://groupsource.lifeworks.com/ or 1-833-300-9511.
KPEA financials are completed annually and are available by request. They are reviewed at the annual board meeting and rest assured all extraordinary costs are reviewed and approved by the board.
